SHEILA GRAY ASKS: I am a Parent of a New Rochelle City School District Employee and I'm

outraged with the neglect of the Employers. My daughter and grandson caught COVID the lack of transportation these children have to go through to get a education is ridiculous. Why should a child have to stand on over crowded buses and children not wearing mask. Why should your employee have to stay at work when their child is sick with COVID and then they get it and you want to rush them back to work when they still have symptoms. The City School District needs to do better if it was one of them or their child I'm sure it would be different circumstances. Let's figure out

better procedures. I feel like they don't care go ahead let someone's child get hurt riding over crowded buses and let employees come back to work and infect Coworkers and Students. Damn shame.

Signed

a outraged Mother and Grandmother

HENRY BARTEE ASKS: I live in the " craft building " in new Rochelle at 164 union ave, and as of June 1st .... They are raising our rent, I have reached out to several who hold office and all they say is they can't help !

This building was put up by Michael's management in fishkill ny. This building is poorly run, one of the elevators was down for a month, the floors and hallways are dirty. The super of the building doesn't know what he's doing and he's always on "YouTube” to fix something ! The stairways are horrendous they leave tracks on the floor and into your apartment. We had 4 managers within a year... and the last manager walked out .. So now the building doesn't have a manager. And the entrance door lock is broken and now the buildings not even secure. On windy days you can hear noise's from the roof as if something is banging up there and the upper parking garage leaks down to the lower garage whenever

it rains and debris fall from the ceiling on to cars below too much stuff going on to raise the rent. We need help here lease. My name is henry Bartee please call me anytime

HENRY BARTEE ASKS: So since you're busy, I guess that means you can't help!!

Ummmm. I find this a bit insulting so not a good way to go about contacting me to look into your concerns. I am telling you that I read what you wrote. Not sure what you expect beyond that exactly but I am not sitting around with nothing to do except wait to see what is on the mind of people I do not know. I am not going to drop what I am doing to make YOUR issues MY priority if that is what you have in mind.

If you are familiar with my reporting, I mostly focus on public sector issues not personal issues.

If you want to pose a question on the link I sent I would reply.

Thanks

LEONARD D. ASKS: I would like updates on the case of Gillian Getlan.

I answer questions every day on my monthly AMZAs (like this one for May).

I also answer questions about a specific article in the comments section of the articles.

The best way to get updates on the cases I follow — like Gillian Getlan— is to subscribe to my Substack “Words in Edgewise”. I sent out my Reporter’s Notebook on cases I follow every Friday.

You sign up for free or get a paid subscription for bonus stuff.

MANY ASK: Who will you vote for in race for New Rochelle Board of Education?

Expand full comment

That is easy.

The NRBOE is chocked full of D-listers but is now guaranteed to get at least one more to solidify its statewide reputation as a rogue board.

My ballot will be:

None of the above.

No on budget

Yes on Bond

JOHN A. ASKS: Are you betting the Derby?

Absolutely. I put $105 on Epicenter to Win, Place or Show and $30 on Trifecta Box on Epicenter, Zandon, Taiba

UGH!

Rich Strike came out of nowhere to win the Kentucky Derby both in terms of resume, getting in the race at the last minute them coming from eighteenth place (out of 20) after the first half mile, seventeen lengths behind the leaders, to roar back to beat Epicenter.

Epicenter was second

Zandon was third

Tabia was 12

I lost $30 on the TriBox

I won the Place and Show bets on Epicenter.

All in, I made $90.

Shocking to see Epicenter leading then lose in last 1/4 mile but a good day at the races for me.

JACKIE W. ASKS: Thanks so much for updating the community on all of these cases! I do have follow up questions in regards to the two michael thunderhorse cases if you have a moment to answer.

In regards to the FOIL dispute I am not clear on if the appeal means the New Rochelle case will be included in the Greenburgh case? Or vice versa?

In regards to the greenburgh case he has pleaded guilty, is the next appearance a sentencing appearance?

The New Rochelle case was meant to have an appearance on April 13th. Was that a pre-trial hearing?

The (successful) FOIL Appeal to Town of Greenburgh has nothing at all to do with the New Rochelle case. BTW, I had a similar FOIL dispute with the New Rochelle Police Department on the NRPD records for Thunderhorse. I recently obtained those as well (ask me about the jerk at NRPD in charge of FOIL!).

As I wrote: https://talkofthesound.com/2022/03/10/thunderhorse-pleaded-guilty-to-domestic-violent-strangulation-in-greenburgh-next-day-he-stabbed-a-woman-in-new-rochelle-in-the-abdomen/

Michael Thunderhorse, 56, of Greenburgh, NY, was arrested in Greenburgh on July 27, 2021, and charged with domestic violence misdemeanor of Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation. On February 23, 2022, Thunderhorse pleaded guilty as charged before Judge Delores Scott Brathwaite in Greenburgh Town Court. The case was adjourned for sentencing on May 18, 2022.

He may be sentenced i. Greenburgh on May 18. I intend to be in court for that. However, it is not uncommon for a sentencing date to be postponed (even many times) so while it may happen it may not.

In the New Rochelle case, he is likely far away from a disposition. His next appearance on Docket# CR-00969-22 is Monday July 11, 2020 but his lawyer indicated he would waive the Grand Jury and go the SCI route (see my glossary at the end of each edition of my court reporter notebook.

TIM C. ASKS: Andrew Thomas was arrested on February 28, 2021 following a serious hit and run accident with injuries. 15 months is a long time for these kind of charges but for some reason these cases are still pending. Why is that?

Expand full comment

There could be many reasons why there is not a disposition of a criminal case after 15 months but the #1 reason would be COVID. A defendant is entitled to demand a jury trial and New York State Courts stopped having Jury Trials two years ago (and they are not back even now). I know of cases from 2018 and 2019 that are held up for this reason.

It could be this or a myriad of reasons.
