Republican Steven Leventhal, Ethics Attorney for New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, Has Had His Own Ethics Issues
NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As the New Rochelle Board of Ethics investigation of Noam Bramson. Sara Kaye and Yadira Ramos-Herbert moves towards a conclusion — a final report is expected next week — a sharp-eyed reader identified the lawyer who accompanied New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson into a hearing on April 4, 2022.
He is Steven Leventhal, described in media reports as “a GOP standby who once served as a party committeeman and for six years chaired the Nassau County Board of Ethics”.
The decision by Bramson, the de facto head of the Democratic Party in New Rochelle and, not that long ago, the party’s countywide standard-bearer as its nominee for Westchester County Executive, to hire a high-level Republican operative has left many scratching their heads.
“Why Noam would hire a Republican lawyer to represent him as he is facing the most serious threat to his political career is surprising”, said Denise Ward, a practicing attorney and former Vice Chair of the New Rochelle Republican City Committee.
